CABINET MEETING, MONDAY, JULY 9, 1951 11:00 AM "NATIONAL SECURITY Chapman absent ARCHIVES AND RECORD# Tobin absent SERVICE Searles for Interior ACHESON State Dept has been working with WH staff on domestic legislative program - controls and Defense Production Act. THE PRESIDENT Big 4 meeting today indicates 125 to 150 members of House will be against any controls despite knowledge of need they want to go home and say they voted against controls. Asked to be provided with report on number of investigations in each Dept since Jan 1948 - with estimate of man hourse devoted to such investigations by Congressional committees or outside agencies whose investigations were inspired by Congress. Also estimate of cost of such investigations. PMG Post Office has installed new money order system in cooperation with Fed Reserve - Treasury and Banks. There will be a dual system old and new operating for a while but after a year it will be successful and with tremendous savings in money and paper. SNYDER Treasury is very happy about new system. BRANNAN Expect 16,800,000 bales of cotton in this years crop. This is a great increase - brought about by acreage increases in Texas and California particularly. THE PRESIDENT There is not much new in Korea as of today. Truce discussions are going forward. 11:30
