A memorandum on this subject from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the President dated 21 July 1945 is attached. Stalin made no direct reply to the President, but at a meeting of the Soviet and U.S. Chiefs of Staff on 26 July, the question was discussed. The discussion is recorded in Papers and Minutes of Meeting of the Combined Chiefs of Staff (Volume VI). 3. 27 July 1945. Memorandum from the President to Stalin, re- garding coal production in Germany. With this letter the President TRUNAN and sent Stalin a copy of his directive to General Eisenhower on coal pro- duction. the Stalin answered the President on 29 July 1945. 4. 29 July 1945. Letter from Stalin to the President regarding the air route to Moscow in answer to the President's letter of 20 July 1945. 5. 29 July 1945. Letter from Stalin to the President regarding coal production in Germany in answer to the President's memorandum of 27 July 1945. 6. 30 July 1945.
