I Brown June 13, 1949 Dear Senator Humphrey: I have caused an investigation to be made in the matter of material furnished by the White House to Mr. Les Flewelling, Secretary of the Bemidji Civic and Commerce Association. I am now in a position to furnish you with a report. It was found that a subordinate at the White House, without authority, issued the material at the request of Congressman Hagen. The employee has admitted that he acted without specific authority and proper disciplinary action has been taken. I am very sorry about the incident and I assure you that the President, as well as myself, regrets the embarrassment that this matter has caused you. With best regards. Sincerely, MATTHEW J. CONNELLY Secretary to the President Honorable Hubert H. Humphrey United States Senate Washington, D. C. mjc;smg
