TRUMAN, Major General Ralph E.
Kansas City, Mo.,
50-mise
11/5/48.
Reconstruction folder
Writes the Prosident extending congratulations on behalf of himself and his wife, Olive.
The President, 11/15/48, wrote to "Dear Ralph" and said he was glad to have his letter, which
had just caught up with him. The Prosident said it was indeed a smashing victory because the
final returns show that the President received a clear majority of the popular vote, which
was what the President wanted. The President said that he had invited Maj. Gen. Truman to
sleep in the Lincoln bed for the inauguration but that it looks as if he talked before knew
what he was talking about. Said the Lincoln bed will be in storage at that time because the
whole inside of the White House has to be torn out, Said it came very nearly falling down on
them the last week and they had to move over to Blair House. Said he did not know how they
would be fixed for room over there but he would be looking for "Ralph and Olive" at the In-
auguration anyway, even if they had to put them up at a hotel.
