CORDOVA LEGION POST
No.1033
CORDOVA, ILLINOIS
December 6, 1949
Mr. Harry S. Truman,
President of the United States,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr President;
Below is a copy of a resolution adopted by our American
+64
Legion Post being sent yourfor your consideration.
WHEREAS, the American veteran in two World Wars has
defended the American free enterprise system, which has made
possible the development in this country of the highest
standards of medical care and the finest medical institutions
attained by any major country in the world; and,
WHEREAS, having experienced the shortcomings of im-
personal, assembly-line medical care inherent in the form
of Government-controlled medicine necessary in the time of war,
the veteran understands the dangers of imposing such a
system permanently on the entire population; and,
WHEREAS, Compulsory Health Insurance would force a tax
of 3% on the income of the employed veteran, rising to a tax
of at least 6% within a few years, creating new financial
burdnns which would increase the costs of necessities of
life and lower the standard of living for veterans and other
citizens, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED, That the Cordova American Legion Post
No. 1033 does hereby go on record against any form of
Compulsory Health Insurance or any system of political
medicine designed for National bureaucratic control;
That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
President of the United States, to each Senator and Rep-
resentative from the State of Illinois, and that said
