Dear Mr. Edelsberg:
Mr. Lloyd has handed me your letter
of June 9th in which you request an appoint-
ment with the President for a delegation to
discuss the McCarran-Walter Immigration Bill.
I am very sorry that we are unable
to comply with your request but feel sure
you will understand when I explain the situ-
ation to you. The time prior to the adjourn-
ment of Congress is always a busy one for
President and, as he has an unusually heavy
calendar confronting him, we must of necessity
refrain from adding to his present schedule.
We regret this is necessary but, under the
present circumstances, feel it is the wisest
course to follow.
With all good wishes,
Sincerely yours,
