Dear Mr. Hassett:
I am deeply grateful to you for your acknowledgment of
my recent letter to the President in regard to the un-
fortunate steel situation.
I feel sure that the President must be gravely concerned
as are most Americans. I still feel that the provisions
of the Taft-Hartley Act should be used and I sincerely
hope that the President has not encouraged the Union to
defy the law by his repeated expression of doubt con-
cerning the probable effectiveness of the laws provisions
if invoked.
