Dear Mr. Bestwick:
The friendly letter of April sixth
from yourself and others to the President is
sincerely appreciated.
While the President has not indicated
whether or not he intends to run for re-election
X x299-7 7
in 1952, he is not barred from doing so by the
22nd Amendment to the Constitution, as you
assumed. The amendment specifically states that
the incumbent President is not affected.
With reference to your question, "How
does it feel to be President of the United States,"
x 101
the President feels that his position is both a
great honor and a great responsibility.

Your friendly interest is sincerely
appreciated.
Very truly yours,
JOSEPH SHORT
Secretary to the President
