My dear Mrs. Edman:
X144-A E
The President greatly appreciates your letter
of April fourth, with the enclosed clipping, and if it
were not for the many urgent demands upon his time he
would write you personally to thank you for it.
It is the President's especial request that I
express his sincere thanks for your thoughtful comments
regarding his announcement that he will not be a candi-
date for re-election. He is gratified to learn that
you, too, feel he has served his country well.
The President is delighted that you enjoyed
the programs rendered by his daughter, Margaret, on the
X PP73 Radio -TV
television and radio. Your complimentary words made
E
him very happy, and, of course, Margaret is also pleased.
Very sincerely yours,
WILLIAM D. HASSETT
Secretary to the President
