Dear President Truman,
Truly our hearts were lifted when we heard your inaugural
prayer, but since we have been reading some of the newspaper
clippings and other items which we are enclosing herewith,
our hearts are nearly broken.
We are missionary Baptist women. Some of us have had boys
in the Armed Forces, some have sons in Service now with others
going soon. We heartily disapprove of them having liquor
to drink--even beer we judge the same. We believe the Bible
teaches drink as a CURSE to any nation and we desire to win
the war by putting God first.
We are praying for you and all leaders of our nation to be led
by the Heavenly Father and that you shall do all in your power
to put a stop to such conduct among all our people.
Sincerely
Mt. Salem, Baptist Woman's
Missionary Union
