My dear Mrs. Forbes:
I have for acknowledgment your letter
of January eighth and am sorry indeod that it
is not possible to do as you ask,
May I explain that, because of the in-
creasingly heavy volume of material which must
of necessity pass over the President's desk,
we are trying to conserve his time as much as
possible by holding in abeyance the innumerable
requests such as yours which are received daily.
I know that you will understand the situation.
You may be sure, however, that your
friendly thought in writing is appreciated and
your good wishes heartily reciprocated.
Very sincerely yours,
MATTHEW J. CONNELLY
Secretary to the President
Mrs. Pearl Forbes,
