Dear Senator McKellar:
This is in acknowledgment of your letter
x
of June twenty-ninth with which you forwarded a
telegram from James N. Hardin of Greeneville,
Tennessee, requesting a telegram from the President
relative to the Congressional Medal of Honor awarded
to Sergeant Kinser, to be read on July fourth. #
May I explain to you that the Medal of Honor
filed
to Sergeant Kinser, of the United States Marine Corps
357-7
Reserve, was presented posthumously by the President
on May second. His service was set forth in a very
laudatory citation signed by the President on that
day. I would suggest that Mr. Hardin read the text
of that citation as it is much more ample and ap-
propriate than any supplemental message would be.
I am returning Mr. Hardin's telegram
herewith.
Very sincerely yours,
MATTHEW J. CONNELLY
Secretary to the President
Honorable Kenneth McKellar,
United States Senate,
x
Washington, D. C.
Enclosure.
