Harry S Truman
Titular Head of The Democratic Party
Washington, D. C.
Dear Sir;
I have been enrolled in the Democratic Party in the County of Orange, Town-
ship of Montgomery, State of New York since I93I. I have been a member of
Railroad Brotherhood Originazations since 1932, nowi belonging to the Broth-
erhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers which Brotherhood was not called
out to strike on May 18th.
In My opinion your speech of both May 24 and 25 was absolutely hostile to
Organized Railway Labor. Your placing for the blame of the strikeeon the
Labor ergânizations and never referring to the abuses of orginazed Railroad
Capitalagainst the Railroad Labor Orginations and your general handling of
the negotiations of the entire strike leads me to beleive that you do not
know what the Railroad strike was about. Your Condemed the two striking
Unions for seeking the conditions that the I5 non-Operating Unions have
enjoyed for years.
Although you called for legislation to curb the Raidway Workers, your
fortitude was lacking in the recent General Motors strike and the present
Miners atrike.
As far as I can determine, my Represenative, August W. Bennett, of New-
burgh, New York, who was sponsored by the Democrates of Orange County New
York in I944, either voted for your asinine Labor bill as proposed in your
May 25 speech or was not present for the vote on the Bill. If Rep. A. W.
Bennett was not present for such a serious occasion he should have been.
For the actio n of May 25, I personally am heartily ashamed that Mr. A. W.
Bennett is my Represenative to Congress, and that he was Endorsed by the
Relations
