EDWARD J. REES, D.D., Minister
STOCKLEY GARDENS AND RALEIGH AVENUE
NORFOLK, VIRGINIA
-
October 24, 1945
The President of the United States
The White House
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. Truman:
As one of your great admirers, and
as one who prays for you often from my pulpit and
elsewhere, I am forced to say that I blush with
shame and entertain serious regrets when I read
that the President has been "taking a not-very-
frequent drink, playing poker - -"
Mr. Truman, this may be an in-
correct report on your activities. I certainly
hope so. If it is true, it is certain to have a
demoralizing effect upon many of your followers,
particularly the Youth of America whose morals you
are helping to mold.
This is sent out of the kindness
of a Christian heart and comes from a sincere ad-
mirer of a good man in the White House.
Most sincerely yours,
Edward J. Rees.
