FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
MADISON, WISCONSIN
October 23, 1945
CHARLES R. BELL, Jr., PASTOR
GEORGE L. COLLINS, UNIVERSITY PASTOR
MISS EDITH ANDERSON, SECRETARY
P.P.F.
The President
White House
Washington, D.C.
B
My dear Sir:
Along with millions of Americans, I
am bitterly disappointed to learn of your
stand in today' S speech which calls for peace-
time conscription of men.
Regardless
of
what you call it, it is peacetime conscription
and it does violate the very things we want to
preserve in this democracy.
I
shall do my
utmost to defeat your proposal and also to
stand against you in every way if this is to
be the course you plan to take.
Sincerely yours
CRB:A
