There ano two distinct lines of thought in this country as
rogarda government, and there have beon those two theories ever
since the organization of the Republio in 1789. Thoma. Jefferion
and Alexander Hanilton typified them at the start of the Federal
Government, Andrew Jackson and the United States Bank proponents
represented these two lines of thought in the 1830's. Thoodore
Roosevelt and Vark Hanna - Weodrow wilson and Bolse Penrose in our
own times. Today we have Franklin D. Roosevolt and Herbert Hoover.
The Homiltonian theory of Government la that thore ought to
be a governing class in Hamilton's timo consisting of the gront
land owners and the big shipping interests -- in our time ropra-
sented by big business and the financial wisards of this country.
Tho members of the Liberty League represent foirly well the
apecial privilego thoory of government.
Jefforion, Jackson, Teddy Roosevolt and Abraham Lincoln
bolieved that the Dovornment actually belonga to the people, as
the Deolaration of Independence states. Franiclin D. Roosevelt
believes with Jefforson and those other groat Prosidents that the
Dovernment 1e for the benefit of every ono, and not just a favored
fow.
From 1920 to 1932 the Mamiltonians had charge of the Govern-
mont at Washington. They zan it to their hoarts' content by and
for special privilege. They uned the power of government to maico
the rich richer and the poor pooror. They exploited the farmer,
