SPEECH OF SENATOR HARRY S. TRUMAN OF MISSOURI CARUTHERSVILLE, MISSOURI TO BE RELEASED ON DELIVERY It was just three years ago that I had the pleasure of being with my friends who were gathered here at Caruthersville. At that time we discussed the great threat that was then apparent to our country. Our thoughts were -- was it possible to keep America out of war. At that time the thunderbolt of Nozi aggression was held above the heads of the civilized world. Today that thunderbolt has fallen. Today the Nazi hordes have over-run Poland, France. and V irtually every part of Continental Europe. In the Western Pacific the gangster nation, the Nipponese, has S over- whelmed the Philippines, Malaya, Dutch East Indies and are savagely attecking our American troops in the Solomons. Alaska and our West FRUMAN Coast have seen the occupation of Kiska in the Aleutian Isles. Eg. CRADIONAL to N.Y However when the savage blow fell which brought the United States fully into the war -- the d astardly attack of the Japanose on Pearl Harbor -- we were not completely unprepared.
