Young Ladies and young gentlemen of
the Junior High School:
It is a pleasure and a privilege for me
to be invited to say something to you about
the Old Trails and their historic connection
with the settlement of the United States of
America.
It also awakens in me a deep and heart-
felt sentiment to address you from this plat-
form, for it was on this very platform that
I received a diploma from the Independence
High School. It was one of my happiest and
