IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVEMBER 13, 1947
The President today issued an Exocutive Order appointing six
mombers to the National Security Resources Board. The Board will hold
its first moeting in the White House today to discuss with the
Prosident the work of the Board.
Board membors appointed wore:
The Secretary of the Treasury
The Secretary of Defense
The Secretary of the Interior
The Secretary of Agriculture
TRUMAN
NARA
The Secretary of Commorce
The Secretary of Labor
The Chairman of the Board is Arthur M. Hill of Charleston,
West Virginia, who was nominated to this post on August 29, 1947, and
took office Soptember 26, 1947.
Tho National Security Resources Board was created by the
National Security Act of 1947. It is a permanont civilian agency of
the United States Govornment and reports directly to the Prosident,
As outlined by the Act, the function of the Board is to advise the
President concerning the coordination of military, industrial and
civilian mobilization, including:
Policies concerning industrial and civilian mobilization in
order to assure the most effectivo mobilization and maximum
utilization of the Nation's manpower in the event of war.
Programs for the effective use in time of war of the Nation's
natural and industrial resources for military and civilian neods,
for the maintenance and stabilization of the civilian economy in
timo of war, and for the adjustment of such oconomy to war needs
and conditions.
Policies for unifying, in timo of war, the activities of
Federal agencies and departments engaged in or concerned with pro-
duction, procurement, distribution, or transportation of military or
civilian supplies, matorials, and products.
Tho rolationship between potential supplies of, and potential
requirements for, manpower, resources, and productive facilitics
in time of war.
Policies for establishing adequate reserves of strategic and
critical material, and for the conservation of these reserves.
The stratogic relocation of industries, services, government,
and economic activities, the continuous operation of which is
essential to the Nation's security.
