Professor Mary Sies
Department of American Studies
University of Maryland
College Park, Maryland
Dear Mary,
Please find enclosed my proposed final copy of my dissertation. Please
note that this does not include the appendices or illustrations. These
have not been modified since the June version which I sent to you (with
the exception of a few additions to the bibliography).
I was very pleased that Dr. Kaufman had such a favorable response to
it. This final copy incorporates his comments.
I was also pleased that you are scheduling a defense in November for
completion of all requirements by December 1st. Besides the desire
to complete this degree, that schedule will permit early publication.
I believe that I will have a publisher for this manuscript in the
not too distant future.
Finally, I was pleased that you wanted to review this dissertation
one last time before its sent out to the committee and that you were
willing to do this while I was in Europe. I think you' 11 find the
enclosed version to have addressed your problems of editing, logic
and so forth.
Thank you for your kind attention. I'll be back in the office on
October 4, 1993.
Sincerely,
Robert J. Kapsch
