2 S: Right. And I will point out that in our program we are explicitly reoognizing the strong probability of a monetary union in Europe and have tried to accommodate that and that we've listened to what he said about convertibility; that we're not trying to say that this plan is what they want but it is not a plan it is a set of ideas, its been deliberately left with a lot of things for discussion and negotia- tion and so on and we intend to work with them. you K: George, I tell you/have definitely 'diplomatic talent. S: Yeh, right. K: I mean not in the class of the Secretary of State. S: I have a problem, however, Doctor. K: Yeh. I'm focusing him on you. He's after me right now - I tell him Shultz is the troublemaker. He wants me to stop the trade deal with the Soviets. S: Well, I have two things. One, are you familiar with the Taiwan issue in these upcoming meetings? K: Yes. S: So you're tracking on that? K: Right. S: We're sort of relying on the State Department people to handle that although I'm checking into/they really - the Brazilian is to offer this motion saying let's refer it to a committee and I'm going to meet with the Brazilian to make damn sure that that's on the track and that there's no mistake about it. K: Good. S: The State Department's vote count suggests that we'll win easily enough. I'm going to buck up Lord Cromer on the subject this afternoon. K: Terrific. And I'm seeing him at noon and I'll make sure to mention it.
