One of the President's most loyal supporters, Rep. Craig
Hosmer (R-Calif) called me on a personal matter. He is
most desirous of having John McGowan, President of the
Douglas Aircraft Company, invited to the State Dinner
honoring the President of Mexico.
John McGowan is a strong Nixon supporter and has participated
in the Nixon Associates for many years. Craig feels that
an invitation to the State Dinner would be-a good recognition
of McGowan's unwaivering support. I strongly concur in
Mr. Hosmer's request.
As an addendum, the President was invited to the roll-out
ccremony at Douglas earlier this year for their new aircraft.
The President was favorably inclined to accept, but something
prevented his acceptance at the last minute. The Vice
President went in his stead.
I hope you will give every consideration to this request.

Aboard the aircraft en route to Iceland, you indicated that the
President would like to have business leaders invited to the
poolside party in California on Saturday, June 23rd. I am not
sure what the philosophy is for having business leaders, but
perhaps you want to have General Secretary Brezhnev involved
in a social setting with leaders of American industry, and thus
promote international trade between the two countries. If this
is the case, perhaps you want to have a heavier concentration
on leaders from certain industries, e.g., automobile production,
steel production, or whatever.
In order that Miss Woods can compile the guest list as quickly as
possible, we would appreciate your guidance on this matter.
