MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
From:
Alexander P. Butterfield
Subject:
Pierre Rinfret
On July 14, Paul McCracken sent a memorandum to you which
expressed his reservations a bout having Pierre Rinfret in for
consultative discussions. Paul's reservations were based
essentially on a Rinfret newsletter which he attached to his
memorandum for your review. It was a scathing piece on the
Administration's economic policies - - irrational, emotional
almost pathological in its presentation. You replied that under
such circumstances you certainly agreed with Paul; and you
added that meanwhile Len Garment should try to "cool Rinfret off. 11
The attached memorandum f rom Len Garment indicates that
Pierre has pretty well simmered down.
