To congratulate Earl Weaver on the fact
that the Baltimore Orioles have won the
American League Pennant.
BACKGROUND:

The Baltimore Orioles won their third
straight pennant on Tuesday, October 5, 1971
by defeating the Oakland Athletics 5-3.

The American League playoffs this year
represents the third straight year that the
Orioles have defeated a Western Division
Champion in the American League in the
playoffs, giving them nine victories without
defeat.
TALKING POINTS:
l- Congratulate Earl Weaver on the
business
victory over the Oakland Athletics and
indicate awareness that the Orioles are now
being called "The Wonder Team of Baseball".
2- Comment on the fact that half of the
Baltimore lineup got on base three or more
times in the game Tuesday with Brooks
Robinson leading the charge with a two-run
single in the fifth inning that put Baltimore
ahead to stay.
