(HUEBNER) JK February 13, 1969 Suggested Remarks for Treasury Department Visit I have lived in my new house for almost four weeks now and I figured it was about time that I paid a call on the folks next door. The reason you are next door neighbors, or so the story goes, is that President Jackson became very impatient one day with the delays in deciding on a site for the Treasury Building. So he stomped out of the White House, drove his cane into the ground, and ordered the building to be built on this site. We also intend to be decisive in this Administration -- but, I can assure you, we will not make our decisions in quite the same way that Jackson made that one. Mr. Kennedy is the 60th Secretary of the Treasury. He follows in the footsteps of some great men, like Albert Gallatin, who served for 13 years under two Presidents (Jefferson and Madison) and Andrew Mellon, who served for 11 years under Harding, Coolidge and Hoover. Three Treasury Secretaries went on to become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (Roger Taney, Salmon Chase and Fred Vinson). That's pretty good for a group of
