VISIT OF THE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS
THE WHITE HOUSE
MONDAY, JUNE 16, 1969
THE PRESIDENT:
At 2:55 p.m. you will be escorted from your office to the door of
the State Dining Room. You will be announced and then will proceed
down the aisle to the raised platform where a single stand-up microphone
will be provided for your use. Dr. Arthur S. Flemming, Chairman of
the President's Commission on White House Fellows, will be on the
platform to greet you. In attendance will be about 150 persons. Among
these will be the 13 members of the President's Commission on White
House Fellows, the Commission staff, Members of the Cabinet, heads
of the Agencies to which the Fellows will be assigned, present White
House Fellows, and this year's national finalists and winners. Wives
will also be in attendance.
You will give a brief welcome. Then Dr. Flemming will read the
names of the 18 winners who have been selected as the White House Fellows
for 1969-70. After each name is read, the individual will come forward
to shake hands with you and will take position in a semi-circle behind you
on the platform. After you have greeted each of the new Fellows, you will
deliver a brief challenge.
NOTE:
Suggested remarks are attached.
There will be press coverage of the ceremony and a
list of the 1969-70 Fellows will have been released to the
press earlier today.
At the conclusion of your remarks, you will be escorted back to your
office. It is estimated that your participation will be of 10 to 15 minutes
duration.
NOTE:
Your guests will be served refreshments after your
departure.
