THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN. VISIT OF THE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS THE WHITE HOUSE MONDAY, JUNE 16, 1969 THE PRESIDENT: At 2:55 p.m. you will be escorted from your office to the door of the State Dining Room. You will be announced and then will proceed down the aisle to the raised platform where a single stand-up microphone will be provided for your use. Dr. Arthur S. Flemming, Chairman of the President's Commission on White House Fellows, will be on the platform to greet you. In attendance will be about 150 persons. Among these will be the 13 members of the President's Commission on White House Fellows, the Commission staff, Members of the Cabinet, heads of the Agencies to which the Fellows will be assigned, present White House Fellows, and this year's national finalists and winners. Wives will also be in attendance. You will give a brief welcome. Then Dr. Flemming will read the names of the 18 winners who have been selected as the White House Fellows for 1969-70. After each name is read, the individual will come forward to shake hands with you and will take position in a semi-circle behind you on the platform. After you have greeted each of the new Fellows, you will deliver a brief challenge. NOTE: Suggested remarks are attached. There will be press coverage of the ceremony and a list of the 1969-70 Fellows will have been released to the press earlier today. At the conclusion of your remarks, you will be escorted back to your office. It is estimated that your participation will be of 10 to 15 minutes duration. NOTE: Your guests will be served refreshments after your departure.
