(HUEBNER) JK April 21, 1970 Suggested Remarks - - Swearing in of Commission on Government Procurement The Commission on Government Procurement is a shining example of cooperation in the national interest. First, it represents cooperation between the political parties, for it is a bipartisan group. This is appropriate, for the business of procuring the best possible services and products at the lowest reasonable cost should not be a partisan matter. One of the guiding lights for this project has been Congressman Holifield of California - a Democrat. Secondly, the Commission represents cooperation between the executive and the legislative branches of the government. And the way I feel about that these days is: 'The more. the better. 11 This Commission will have wide-ranging responsibilities. Its subject matter involves the spending of between $50 and $60 billion annually. And the kind of spending involved ranges from the purchase of pencils to the development of spaceships and missiles.
