REMARKS OF THE PRESIDENT AT THE NATIONAL REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE,
THE EAST ROOM, JANUARY 15, 1971, 5:35 P.M.
THE PRESIDENT: We want to welcome all of you to this
reception for the members of the National Committee and the
National Finance Committee.
Because I want to have the opportunity to see each of
you personally, and Pat and I would like to meet each of
you personally, we are going to handle this the way we
handle the diplomatic reception; in other words, so that
you will know how it is done. We are going to have a
diplomatic reception in about two weeks. That will
be white tie, 9 o'clock, and we move into the Blue Room
and stand between the Flags and the diplomats come by.
Just because you go through the same way the diplomatic
reception goes through, don't all want to be Ambassadors.
What Morton hasn't given away, Dole has promised. It isn't
a good job, anyway.
But I did want to have the opportunity while we were
all together here to say just a word about our party
and the National Committee, the Finance Committee, and all
of the great ventures in which we have engaged in the past
and in which we will engage in the future.
We are very proud that you can be here at this particular
reception. It is just for you alone. We haven't
invited the press. The Vice President isn't here,
either.
But nevertheless, we have you here because this is
a very special party for just the members of our
official family in the National Committee and the
Finance Committee.
And as I said when we had one of these parties,
you will recall, about a year and a half ago, you deserve
to be here because if it hadn't been for you, we wouldn't
be here. And because of what you did we are here. This
is your house, it belongs to you, it belongs to the
whole country, but particularly to you because of what
you have done.
