TEENAGE REPUBLICANS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
It is a real pleasure to welcome this group of outstanding young
leaders today. You come at a time when youth is high in importance at
the White House. For weeks now, in fact, a certain young couple in
their twenties have dominated the scene around here; I have just been
part of the supporting cast. Finally things are returning to normal - -
but it is a very young "normal, 11 even at that. During your visit today
you are likely to see a good many faces which you'll recognize as being
on what you'd call the "right" side of age 30. The reason for that is
that we have one of the largest proportions of men and women under 30
some of them just a year or so out of college -- of any White House
staff in history. We find these young people exceptionally valuable,
with their spirit, their fresh outlook, their energy and drive. These
same qualities are what make you so valuable to the Republican hopes
for a better America.
The 1970s and 1980s belong to you and your contemporaries. The
exciting thing to realize is that the Republican vision of America's goals
and how to reach them is the one that is really attuned to you and your
times.
