Meeting with two Customs patrol officers
April 8, 1972

I. PURPOSE
To publicize your continuing interest in heroin seizures as a part
of your campaign against drug abuse.
II. BACKGROUND, PARTICIPANTS, AND PRESS PLAN
A.
Background: The two Customs patrol officers while on a
routine patrol of the Miami seaport observed a suitcase
carried from a freighter which originated in Hong Kong
being loaded into a vehicle parked on the dock. When the
car attempted to leave the dock, it was stopped and a
search of the suitcase revealed 70 plastic bags containing
22 pounds of heroin having a retail value of approximately
$5.5 million.
You toured the Customs facilities at JFK airport in New
York City last month (March 20, 1972).
B.
