THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN
THE PRESIDENT:
BACKGROUND
On Tuesday, June 13, you will submit to Congress the Arms Treaty
for the Senate's advice and consent. This Treaty will be accompanied
by letters of transmittal from the Secretary of State and from you.
Additionally, you are submitting the Executive Agreement on Offensive
eapons that was announced during your trip to the Soviet Union.
In order to underline the importance of the accords that were reached
with the Soviets, and to solicit public and Congressional support for
ratification of the Treaty, you will deliver an announcement that will
be filmed for the evening news. This announcement will be made in
the Family Theater, with you speaking from a Presidential podium
reading from a teleprompter. One single photo pool camera will be
used to film your statement.
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS
11:00 a.m.
You proceed to the Theater where the
camera will be set up.
You deliver your statement which will be
on the teleprompter (text of statement attached).
11:05 a. m.
Filming concludes.
You return to your Oval Office.
Press Plan:
There will be a single movie camera present for Press pool purposes.
