BIPARTISAN RECEPTION FOR HOUSE FRIENDS
Tuesday, September 11, 1973
5:00 - 6:00 p.m. (60 minutes)
State Dining Room
From:
William E. Timmons BT
I.
PURPOSE:
To welcome selected bipartisan friends from House of Representatives
who want to reconfirm their support.
II.
BACKGROUND, PARTICIPANTS AND PRESS PLAN:
A. Background:
Ben Blackburn (R-Ga) and Dan Kuykendall (R-Tenn) conceived
the idea for "spontaneous" reception for about 60 House Members
to be invited on day of event with appeal "Let's go to White House
today to tell the President we back him. 11
B. Participants:
1.
Since this is a Blackburn-Kuykendall event, they will invite
a bipartisan group that has been supportive, each of whom
will be told nature of reception. White House will not
have list until late Tuesday.
2. Special Whips have been appointed to invite limited numbers
of Democrats; ranking GOP; freshman, sophomore and
mid-term Republicans; and geographical quotas. This
should insure broad representation.
3. White House senior staff and congressional relations
personnel to be invited to reception.
