in reducing inflation. The President's first line
of defense against inflation will be easing tight
credit. It astonishes veterans of former Admin-
istration's that the Nixon team often seems
oblivious to the Fed's independence. One Nixon
stalwart says, "There's only one man whose
opinion on credit policy counts - - Nixon's.
But so far there's no consensus in the Admin-
istration that easier money is what the economy

INTEGRATION
Integration has failed - - black parents are
disenchanted and white parents are voting with
their feet. The new epidemic of racially
connected violence in high schools all over the
country is one factor in the desire to convert
desegregation into resegregation. But there are
still the language and social barriers and the
thousands of years of prejudice which has not
yet been overcome. The obstacles won't be
overcome until we realize that coerced integration
has failed. Part of the problem is that the court
decree to integrate did not represent the will of
the people and it is less tolerable now than it was
15 years ago. "Now the original decree has been
reinforced by other orders which prohibit recourse
to one safety valve that might work: freedom of
