THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN NEWS SUMMARY November 27, 1971 (Friday networks, wires and columns) The major stories of the day: - RN to meet Heath in Bermuda December 20 -- ABC lead where international trade problems are emphasized; brief note by other nets and Sevareid commentary less than enthusiastic over summitry. 1 US balance of payments suffers worst month ever (NBC lead) and Admin attributes it largely to dock strike as courts begin issuing back-to-work orders. - Dow-Jones makes biggest jump in over 3 months -- up 18 points (CBS lead) and spurred by rise in leading indicators which was 1.2% or 6 times the Sept. increase. Also helping market: lengthier workweeks; decline in requests for unemployment com- pensation and movement against dock strike. - India-Pakistan conflict continues in apparently light engagements as Bangla-Desh rebels are reportedly bringing under control sizable chunks of E. Pakistan. - PRC at UN blasts Soviets for Malik's previous criticism of Chiao's Wed. attack on Soviet disarmament conference -- - opposition to which US joins PRC Friday. - Major film reports on all nets on the peaceful, quick end to Rahway, New Jersey prison rebellion -- marked contrast to Attica tho Cahill refused to make comparisons. Much credit to the Gov. (Lengthy film on all nets.) - No evidence of the hijacker who bailed out with $200, 000.
