THE president HAS SEEN
-- Laird comes under sharp attack from Proxmire as the Secy.

urges Hill to move forward on Trident and B-1s and declares
that a unilateral budget-cutting exercise like McG's would be
equivalent to "surrender." Film led NBC while Calif. primary
led ABC/CBS.
-- NVN admits it's having "very difficult" economic problems
because of US bombings but vows it can carry on war.
ARVN repulsed NVA at Phu My.
-- Film on NBC as Tito arrived in Moscow to receive the Order
of Lenin - the SU's highest decoration - -- 24 years after the
Kremlin branded him a heretic of communism. Brez was there
to greet a fellow CP head in what Russ called "a major political
event."
- - Connally's off on what ABC called "ambitious" world tour to
discuss economic problems, summits, and other issues hosts
bring up. ABC/NBC speculate the Sec's being groomed for
important role -- possibly VP or Sec. of State.
-- A "confident" McG left Calif. "showdown" campaigning for
Houston to seek uncommitted delegates at Natl. Governors
Conference and look into what CBS called "edginess" among
Southern Border States Governors over his views. Yorty
urged his supporters to swing to Humphrey in Calif. and
HHH is "pleased" and says he'll fight on even if losing Calif.
New ABC poll (taken May 30-31) shows a slight HHH gain - -
McG 44%, HHH 26% and Wallace 11%. ABC poll also shows
37% of those voting for McG think RN is generally doing a
good job, while 60% of HHH backers say the same.
-- All nets (NBC/CBS film) on Duke of Windsor's funeral. The
Duchess returned immediately to Paris.
