The major stories:
-- Haig is off to SVN.
NVN responds to HAK by blaming
US for trying to change draft.
Heavy fighting in Northern
SVN and Hanoi has charged US w/dropping mines in Haiphong
Harbor -- a practice dropped Oct. 22. No US comment, altho
US denies NVN charge that US bombing North of 20th parallel.
- Hanoi's refusal to accept the principle of 2 VNs appears to
analysts to be blocking the accord. Gloomy assessments on
HAK's briefing. No estimates as to when talks might resume.
-- HST is being slowly poisoned by inadequate kidneys, says a
wire lead and his "hardened arteries apparently prevent use of
a kidney machine. He remains in "very serious" condition.
-- With a spacewalk on the way by the nearly-forgotten Ron Evans,
Apollo 17 sped on its perfect course home for Tuesday
splashdown.
AP special DOD-designee Clements reports he's a central figure
in bitter legal fight involving allegations of fraud, conspiracy
and bribery.
Besides going into next week's playoff w/reverse momentum
after losing 24-17 to the undistinguished Bills, the Skins lost
their individual rushing championship w/OJ Simpson pulling
ahead of Larry Brown to take the season's crown.
Dominating Sunday papers was HAK briefing w/leads or banners in all
and major papers used text as well:
