THE PRESIDENT HAS SEENDLB NEWS SUMMARY D-Day, 29 Years After Normandy June 6 (Tues. nets, wires, columns) The major stories of the day: - Thru hearsay, 2nd and 3rd hand reports, JDE's 288 page civil suit deposition insinuates that RN had prior knowledge of Watergate taps, led CBS w/Schorr reporting on Magruder claim that Strachan had told him that RN wanted the surveillance carried out. But to JDE Strachan denied he ever said that. ABC led w/JDE's report that Magruder told him of Liddy death threat against Jeb That report also noted by NBC in #4 story w/Chancellor calling "more important¹ the charge that Mitchell approved bugging -- or so Dean/Magruder told JDE Colson in ABC Special (taped by VTR) and in clip on ABC news says RN never knew of bug plans or of coverup and that he was "furious" over the "improper, idiotic" breakin and "bitterly" critical in weeks thereafter of CRP. Further, said Colson in view also suggested at in Schorr's report on JDR testimony, it was RN whose insistence to get at facts led to the major disclosures. - Reisner on all nets in #2 or #3 story as he told of preparing Gemstone material for Magruder meeting w/Mitchell. ABC said he spun a web and tied Magruder to bug plans and circumstantially tied in Mitchell. NBC said Mitchell was thus further implicated. ABC/CBS film of Inouye line of questioning as Sally Harmony recalled no nat'l security material in what she typed for Liddy and, in CBS clip, conceded to the Sen. that it was all political. All nets noted, ABC w/film, that she didn't know what was in the Liddy intelligence reports. - Senate will subpoena the RN-Dean logs, noted all nets in what Chancellor said "could be an exceedingly important development" and it's not known what WH will do w/subpoena ABC's Landay said WH softened stand on logs by saying availability to Cox was under consideration. Rather saw Warren trying to make his Mon. statement on their unavailability "inoperative."
