The Major Stories of the Day:

W/Hill impelled to act swiftly, Pipeline Bill "breezed thru" Senate
80-5. ABC/CBS lead. Even tho RN favors construction, ABC said,
some fear he might veto bill due to FTC amendment. But indications
are RN will sign as opening wells outweighs other considerations.

House overwhelmingly approved bill to require RN to

declared state of emergency because of labor crises in coal and
electricity industries. Crises threaten nationwide black-out. All

Both ABC/NBC in #2 story noted RN's scheduled 3rd meeting w/15 GOP
Senators. NBC noted WH reported overall positive reaction by those
who've attended meeting. On NBC film Ford said "there are and
always will be periods of crisis when emotion, even hysteria, get
the upperlhand. But, in a free society, good sense wins out in the
end -- good sense and fair play. 11 Nessen said speech indicated Ford
has been assigned leading role, which STA used to play, in WH
offensive to revive RN's credibility
ABC's Reynolds w/film noted
St. Cloud, Fla. gave 86% of 172 vote to RN and he remains their
here hero today
