The major stories of the day:

RN assured the govs Tues. there'd be no more bombshells, led
ABC/CBS, but there was another one Wed. NBC had clip of Gov.
Dunn's Tues. praise of RN's "frank and honest" statement that no
more bombs were known to the Pres. "Something else is wrong"
re: tapes was how NBC began its 7 minute story on 18 minute "gap"
in 6/20/72 tape of RN/HRH/JDE which included Brinkley pointing to
difficulty of any wholesale altering of tapes w/out being discovered
Film on all nets of Buzhardt conceding development was "very impt¹
altho he's not sure it's a "bombshell".
Pros. Ben-Veniste said
there's potential of contempt or obstruction of judgement, but he's
not prejudging the situation
All nets noted Sirica wants all the
tapes now to better protect them it's not that I don't trust WH, was
comment of Judge noted by ABC/NBC. If tapes aren't voluntarily
turned over, there 11 be another subpeona
As to why RN didn't
reveal gap when he knew of it last Thurs. before editors and before
govs, ABC/NBC noted WH view that it should properly come out in
court.
Graham on CBS w/much of 6 -minute lead devoted to review
of the tapes situation in past few weeks very negative, including
pros. implication that RN intentionally talked to JNM on an untapped
phone in June of '72
ABC film of expert explaining problems in
doctoring tapes.
"More bad news" for WH was how Chancellor reported Waddy ruling
that impoundment of education funds was unconst'l. Noted in #2 spot
by NBC/ABC
Energy crisis closely linked to CPI rise of 8%, said
ABC. 7. 9% for year noted by all nets. "Gloomy economic news, 11
said Chancellor
"On heels" of CPI, said Cronkite, came word of
CAB OK of 5% hike in air fares. Noted also by ABC/NBC.

Washington issued more warnings, but few solutions, began Cronkite
on 7 minute energy report. Apparently no decision on what to do and
nearest thing to positive statement was denial of plans for ban on
Sunday driving. OMB director on ABC/CBS film re: that w/ABC/NBC
noting RN ruled out such a move
NBC's Levine listed a number of
major steps RN is expected to take but rationing is still expected
On ABC/CBS film w/NBC note, Morton provided "ominous" timetable,
"chilling predictions" as to energy problems ahead. But he feels if
public responds, compulsory brownouts/blackouts can be avoided
