He 1st conferred w/RN (good silent film of both on all nets) and then told news conference RN said he had no intention "whatsoever" of resigning. On film on all nets VP said RN reiterated that intention and added on ABC/NBC (CBS note) that he's seen no evidence that'd justify impeach- ment. But "there is talk" of resignation/impeachment, noted Chancellor, leading Duke report on growing talk among some of VP's old colleagues on just that subject. Findley, Biester and Anderson all negative on RN's chances of regaining credibility w/out immediate disclosure of everything. And on ABC/CBS (NBC note) VP successor as minority leader Rhodes conceded RN's liability to GOP because of suspicion and doubts of his credibility raised by W'gate. And he wouldn't comment on impeachment til results of Judiciary probe are in, as that would show prejudgment on his part. RN will release data on financial dealings Sat. Noted by NBC/ CBS w/CBS devoting 6 minutes to case of RN's VP papers as tax deduction. Very negative w/strong implication gift couldn't qualify because pre-dated deed wasn't given to Archives til 8 months after deadline. 2% rise in unemployment to 4. 7% led NBC w/all nets noting rise may be only beginning w/lst real impact of energy shortage predicted for Jan. stix. Part of 4-6 mins. on energy-related stories on all nets w/apparent success of Brinegar in heading off DC (and other) truck stoppages leading ABC. ABC/NBC (w/film) noted DC threat was averted when spokesman "River Rat" Edwards was put into plane flying over DC telling drivers not to tie up arteries because trucker reps were making progress, Clips of reps saying they received sympathetic ear w/Brinegar promising to do everything he could to help situation.
