The major stories of the day:
Hank Aaron hit #715 to break Babe Ruth's all-time HR record.
RN signed hike and extension of minimum wage. LedNBC and
#4 on CBS, both w/film as a high-spirited RN slid pen across
desk to Brennan. Brief ABC note. All said bill was pretty
much what RN vetoed last year. ABC/CBS noted RN felt bill
could no longer be fairly delayed. CBS noted speculation that
it was signed because veto override might have resulted otherwise
NBC followed w/downbeat film on a hard-working Mormon
family having trouble making it on $15, 000/year and min.
wage won't help such persons.
Sevareid called for escala-
tor indexes thruout economy to enable all sectors to keep up
w/each other in inflationary times

Trust to raise prime to 10%, equalling the record.

news helped send D-J down 7 to 840 on 10. 7M volume, noted
ABC/CBS.
ABC from Zurich told of the continuing
"stampede" for gold as inflation remains uncontrolled and
nothing's more reassuring than gold.
In another economy
story, CBS w/film from Texas where 1/3 of nation's 1st wheat
crop of what was hoped to be bumper year has been lost due to
drought.
Israel lost its 1st plane on Syrian front where 28th straight
day of fighting occurred. All nets noted. Israel says plane
suffered technical malfunction; Syria claims it was shot
down. In any case, the pilots are now POWs.
The strain
and pessimism in an Israel living under continued siege was
subject of CBS film.
WH refused to say whether IRS charged a negligence penalty,
noted all nets. "It's a closed book" was Warren-noted remark
by ABC/NBC.
In its lead story ABC said IRS is still
investigating fraud possibility w/probe focusing on DeMarco.
And Jaworski is also dealing w/the "hot potato, 11 forced to do
so by IRS, said ABC.
