Dear Mike:
Last Saturday the Physical Fitness Stamp was unveiled in an impressive
ceremony at the Houstonian in Houston, Texas. This was done in
conjunction with the 2nd Annual National Fitness Classic in the
Evergreen Room of the Houstonian before an audience of approximately
300. The National Fitness Classic is cosponsored by the PCPFS and the
Houstonian. The particulars regarding the agenda and distinguished
guests are enclosed.
Kenneth H. Fletcher, Chief Postal Inspector and also an active
participant in the National Fitness Classic, presented a 30 X 40 inch
color reproduction of the stamp and a post office was set up just
outside of the Evergreen Room to sell the physical fitness stamps on
this first day of issue. I am pleased on behalf of the U.S. Postal
Service and the PCPFS to present you with a Gold Album of the
commemorative U.S. postage stamp.
In the 27 year history of the President's Council this is the first time
that the Council has been successful in securing a Physical Fitness
Stamp. It was most appropriate that this stamp was issued during the
National Physical Fitness and Sports Month which was proclaimed by
President Reagan and the Congress for May 1983, which incidentally is
another first for the Council.
In closing I should like to acknowledge the exemplary leadership of
Chairman George Allen in securing the approval of both the stamp and
fitness month and the outstanding cooperation and support of
Bill Bolger, the Postmaster General.

Dear Mike -
With Summit Conference coming up and all of the
other travels the President has been doing lately, you must be
burning the midnight oil!
I am glad I made Williamsburg when
I was in Washington, even though I had to run around in a down-
pour. Good luck to your efforts. I did get to the Vice
President's dinner in San Diego; and have been trying to get
around as much as I can.
Am a member of State Central RC
and an Associate on S.D. County Central. Hope to take an active
part in the presidential campaign - nationally - - if there is a
place for me?
Marc's son, Brad, is being married June 11 to a
lovely girl - both graduating from University of San Diego next
Sunday. Have asked Shirley if she would arrange for a wedding
congratulations for them.
