I. PURPOSE
To thank this inter-departmental group for their efforts this
week to insure victory on the MX votes this week and encourage
them to continue their work during the authorization and appropria-
tions process.
II. BACKGROUND
Ken Duberstein and Dave Gergen have been coordinating this inter-
departmental group since the President endorsed the recommendations
of the Scowcroft Commission. The group has met weekly to plan
legislative and public affairs activities within the Administra-
tion on the MX vote. Participants include staff from the White
House, NSC, Defense, Air Force, Joint Chiefs, State, ACDA, OMB
and the Scowcroft Commission.
The House passed the MX resolution of approval by votes of 239-186
and 223-167 on Tuesday and Thursday and the Senate passed it 59-39
on Wednesday.
