I. PURPOSE
To enable the President and Mrs. Reagan to get better acquainted
with the Speaker and Mrs. O'Neill (Millie).
II. BACKGROUND
The President previously invited the Speaker and Mrs. O'Neill to
dinner, but the invitation was declined because Mrs. O'Neill had
the flu.
Speaker O'Neill, 68, has been in the House for 28 years and is
serving his fifth year as Speaker. He is, of course, a liberal
Congressman from Boston and was in the Massachusetts legislature
before coming to Congress. Everyone calls him "Tip." He is
affectionate, shrewd and the unchallenged boss of the House
Democrats. He is an ardent, though erratic, golfer.

President and Mrs. Reagan, and staff guests, for cocktails and
dinner in the Second Floor Residence.

on Wednesday, February 18, 1981.

to get an early start in improving the economy.
