Mr. Morton C. Blackwell
Special Assistant to the President
White Housee
Washington, District of Columbia
Dear Mr. Blackwell:
I should first inform you that I recently was a
participant in the American Legion's Boys Nation pro-
gram. I was fascinated by the hospitality of the Vice-
President during our trip to the White House, and I
would personally like to thank you for arranging the
meeting between him and the Boys Nation's members. It
was our honor completely. I still have a lingering hope
to satisfy my deepest desires of meeting the President,
since I am a true fan of his and campaigned in Rhode
Island for pro-life in his behalf.
Mr. Blackwell as I was leaving the White House
after our fine tour, you informed me that it would be
possible to acquire an autographed picture of the Presi-
dent. I would cherish such a picture and hope it is
still possible for you to fulfill my wish.
May God bless you and everybody associated with
our great President. Thank you for your assistance
in this matter.
Sincerely yours,

Dear Cathy,
Hi! First of all, "Thank You" for your kindness to
Bob Strickman during his stay at the hospital in Baltimore.
I heard about the pictures and autographs from President
Reagan. You could never, in a million years, have done
anything to please anyone as much as that did. We are
very concerned about Bob and his health. What a great
couple they are! Thanks again!
Now, I need your help! Here goes! On October 23rd
the Salem County Republican Organization is having their
Annual Fall Dinner-Dance. (I am Chairlady of the affair).
What we would like to do is have an auction. Would it be
possible for you to get "something" from the Greatest
not
President ever and Our First Lady? I did this during
President Nixon's reign and it was fabulous. He sent a
wilk-
steel engraving of the White House, autographed. At that
time we had several Republicans down there, including Sen.
Case and Dongressman Sandman. all sent gifts and we had a
professional auctioneer.
raised several dollars on the affair!
We will take whatever you can possibly get hold of. Maybe a
in
relic from the Inaugeration -- anything personally signed, etc.
If you have any other ideas please let me know.
The other BIG favor I need is: A personal autographed
picture of President Reagan to: Judge David Schepps. He is
quite an important gentleman in Salem County and in my Town-
ship. He has asked me to do this so he can hang it in his
Official Office. He is Municipal Judge in nine of our fifteen
pictures or 8/27
municipalities in Salem County.
As if that isn't enough to ask of you - I request the
same for myself. Notice I come last
since I have to look
after "special request" first. Lee and I are State Committee-
man and woman now so maybe we could have an autographed picture
from President Reagan.
or
Do you get back to New Jersey much?? I'm sorry Jack lost
but we are going to do whatever we can to elect Tom Kean. As
of yesterday Chuck Ward and I are Tom's campaign aides in our
County.
Best wishes to you.
Sincerely,
Mary Harris

Dear Morton:
In talking to a friend of mine, Matt Peters, who was a Reagan delegate
in 1980 from Kansas, I mentioned the picture I got with the President's
autograph.
8/27
Matt asked If I would try and obtain some for certain members of his
family. He would like the last name for his family eliminated and

used.
The pictures should be to the following:
1. Leigh, Chuck and Laura
2. Polly
3. Tim
4. Ron
5. Evelyn and Rick
In addition, Matt would like one for his parents Don and Connie Peters.
this
Don was Reagan's Kansas Finance Chairman in 1976 and a 1980 Reagan
Delegate. Would it be possible for the President to actually sign one
for them? Is there something else that would be special that could be
done?
As usual, thanks to you and your fine staff.
Sincerely,
havey

Attached is a letter about a woman
who played the piano for radio programs
at WHO in Des Moines, Iowa. She is 87
and recalls being fairly well acquainted
with the President then.
You may want to look into this situation
to see if anything else might be
appropriate other than a photo. If not
would you get a photo of the Pres, and
Nancy autographed to her and return it
to me.

Honorable Morton Blackwell
Special Assistant to the President
The White House

Dear Morton:
Joseph P. Brantley IV is a young attorney here in
Baton Rouge and a good friend of mine.
As you will see from the attached letter, his
grandmother, who is now 87 and in a nursing home here
in Baton Rouge, knew President Reagan when they both
worked for WHO in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Brantley would very much like to get the
President to autograph a picture and send it to Mrs.
Batham.
However, I thought it might be even better if the
President would give her a personal call. I can
arrange excellent media coverage, and it would certainly
make a great human interest story here in Louisiana and
maybe nationally.
With kindest regards, I remain

Dear Woody:
In connection with our recent conversation concerning my
Grandmother, my Mother was able to obtain the following
information.
During the late 1920's or early 1930's, my Grandmother,
Helen Batham, played the piano for certain radio programs at
WHO in Des Moines, Iowa. At that time, President Reagan was
the sports caster at the station. My Grandmother recalls
being farely well acquainted with him as well as having met
Jane Wyman on several occasions.
My Grandmother is now 87 years old and is in Fountain Lodge
Nursing Home, 4005 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, 70806, even
though she is still mentally very alert.
Anything you might be able to do to get Morton Blackwell to
have the President autograph a picture to her or drop her a
letter would be greatly appreciated and I am sure would pick
up her spirits immensely.
Thanking you for your consideration, I remain
