Dear Tony,
It's a great pleasure for us to write this letter wishing
that as you receive it, it will find you and the brothers and
sisters enjoying the blessings of God our Lord in keeping the
duties of a Christian required in His holy ministry.
It's been some time even in Susie's life since we wished to
make our greatfulness manifested for having taken in our Jose
Felipe who has lived with the congregation for the last 10 years
and has received our visits without a problem whatsoever to us.
First in Saugus California. Every year around the Christmas
Holidays at those oportunities we lived with them and they always
shared their meals with us also provided us lodging in one of the
apartments they have for the brothers.
Now that we reside in the United States, Ft. Smith Arkansas,
we can see each other more frequently in Dyer or Alma since we
are closer we have been able to appreciate the work accomplished
in both the spiritual as well as the material, such as construc-
tion of fully furnished living facilities, school, nursery, res-
taurant, recreation area, club house, swimming pool, means of
transportation and last but most important, a beautiful church
for Sunday services and small chapel for daily services.
To the said congregation, beside our son, belong many other
persons who before they found the way, serving God our Lord, were
in the world so lost that even treatment by medical specialists
was not able to help them. Every change in them and their lives
is the work of God who led them to the foundation where beside the
knowledge of God's word they found understanding, love and a home
in a Christian family.
For everything mentioned above we thank God every day
praying for His blessings upon the congregation and that he would
give you the wisdom, power, and guidance to continue on in the
ministry that He has placed in your hands.

Dear Tony:
Mrs. Millen and I wish to express our appreciation
for the ministry of the Christian Foundation in Alma,
Arkansas. We have had the privilege of visiting our
daughter Mary and her husband Jerry twice prior to their
entering the Foundation. At the time of my recent heart
condition they came home to visit for several days.
It was our privilege to worship in the church at
Dyer last year and to meet you then. We feel that you
are engaged in a very important mission with young
people that many other churches neglect or cannot reach.
Ounchildren have been truly changed by their acceptance
of the Lordship of Christ and the Spirit's presence in
their lives.
We hope to visit again when health permits and to
see more of your work. We have found you to be engaged
in basic fundamentatlst Christian ministry with love
and concern for people burdened with sin and guilt.
May God continue to strengthen you and lead you
by His Spirit.

Dear Mr. Alamo,
I write in response to Simon's request, and yours, for a
letter from me, as a parent of a member of your organization.
As you know, I was profoundly worried at Simon's decision in
1970 to remain in the States, rather than return to England to
train for a career. However, I was pleased when we heard that he
was happily married to Janet, and that they had |had their first son,
whom they named after yourself, and from time to time we had a
letter from Simon. In December 1980 we made a trip to Houston to
attend the wedding of a niece, and were more than delighted when
Simon phoned us at the wedding reception to invite us to drive up
to Arkansas to meet him and his family, and he arranged for us to
stay at a motel in van Buren for the visit. We had an overwhelmingly
happy re-union with Simon and met Janet and Tony and Jonathan for
the first time, the boys then being 5 and 6 years old. After
giving us an excellent supper in the restaurant at Alma, they took
us to their very pleasant apartment, where we spent the evening
playing with the children and catching up on news. It was very,
very happy for us and we returned to England feeling very much
happier than we had done; it was clear to us that Simon was greatly
enjoying his varied work with the organization, that he had a
happy marriage to a lovely girl and had two really delightful sons.
Last autumn I was seriously ill; in March this year we accepted
an invitation from a friend in Los Angeles for me to have a brief
recuperative holiday as her guest. We had not anticipated seeing
Simon and family owing to distance, so we were overjoyed when Simon
was enabled by yourself, to drive the 1500 odd miles to California
to see us, and again we spent two happy days with him. We were only
sorry Janet and the children could not be there too, but we spoke
to Janet on the phone, and have since had letters from the children.
We are planning to visit the States again next spring, when I
hope to celebrate my 60th birthday with them. What more could one
want?!
I send you my best wishes, and hope sincerely that the pain of
losing your wife is a little easier for you to bear.

your information from but I used to live there and I always
had three square meals a day and more than I could eat. Also
there were never any chains attached to me. They never in
any way forced me to stay.

should be more places like the Tony and Susan Alamo Christian
Foundation.

I am the stepfather of a son who my wife and I recently allowed to
leave Miami Beach with some of the families going back to the Foundation
in Arkansas. Justin is a rambunctious six-year-old who charms everyone
he meets -- when I became his father five years ago, I had an expensive
photographic composite make of him for modeling purposes, so charmed
was I by this beautiful little blond-haired, blue-eyed angel. But
neither his mother nor I could ever bring ourselves to give him what he
most needed -- discipline, guidance, faith. We had never had enough of
these qualities to pass on what we ourselves lacked. I love(d) Justin
beyond any rational limits --friends, relatives, even his mother would
tell me I was sacrificing too much of myself for him -- but I knew I was
only compensating for the guilt I felt for not being able to give him
what he really needed. And the fact that he had alcoholism on both
sides of his family was a threat that constantly nawed away at me, por-
tending future troubles if proper steps were not soon taken.
Somehow, karma, fate or whaterer led us to come into contact with
a few families who had come down from the Foundation to establish a
mission in the Sodom and Gomorrah land of South Beach. I had sent Justin
to an expensive Jewish camp sponsored by a nearby temple simply because
it was the best camp in the area, a vestige of better days. In fact, I
was raised Jewish myself but did not want any religious trips laid on
Justin, and the camp was basically secular, pershaps only a dash of Israeli
dancing and sabbath services on Fridays. Justin had been to a Baptist
day-care center in the hip Coconut Grove section we raised him in, so we
thought it cute that he get a smattering of different religions as long
as neither brainwashed him.
Shortly after the Foundation families moved into our building we
could not help but notice that we were seeing less and less of the little
sprite: he would come home from camp, sometimes grab a snack, and run out
to visit his new friends across the courtyard. I was happy about this
because the children of these new families seemed much better off than
the lost, un-or misguided kids who lived in the building and whom I'd
often felt sorry for, since their parents seemed either too poor or un-
caring to send them to summer camp. A few were older than Justin, and
I could see a sadness in their faces that I cringed to think would ever
emerge in the face of my little angel. Yet in his face other ominous
emotions were becoming evident to me, now that he wasn't a baby anymore --
selfishness, recklessness, only-child syndromes. I kind of hoped that
these new folks and their children would be a better influence on him
and perhaps present him with a situation that he would have to deal with
in such a way as to force him to grow out of these patterns.
I quickly became friendly with one of the mothers of the new children
in particular -- Dorothy Curry, who was (fatefully) a first-grade teacher,
just the grade Justin was entering. Since I am always looking for omens,
the obvious possibility immediately clicked in my mind. As I got to know
her and the other parents better, I came more and more to see in inevitable
flow of fate that was taking place right before my very eyes.
Any but an arrogant "intellectual" (I originally came to Miami to teach
at the university) would be convinced of the divinely caused nature of the
events that led us to meet the beautiful people of the Foundation and allow
them to take our little angel back with them to the paradisical mountain
ridge upon which they have built their homes, their schools and their, faith.
I must in my objective rationality refuse to admit divine intervention,
although I know full well that Dorothy and the rest of the parents view me
as the messenger who brought another little blonde lamb to their fold.
They would of course, have loved it if his parents were bent on being saved
too, but my aforementioned cynicism has apparently also rubbed off enough
on Jenny to prevent her from joining the flock, even though she happened
to attend a fundamentalist school as a teenager.
At any rate, the incredible blessing that has been bestowed upon
our "unsaved selves" in having met these few faithful people stems from
a grace that I will never understand. I was always one to laugh at any
kind of "cult", and would never have stood for Justin to leave me for
anyone or anything, but these people are a breed apart. They are not
a "cult" they are a clan with a faith. They live much like the families
of Israeli kibbutzim in loving, closely allied "loose-family" units in
which the harmful debilitating effects of the nuclearized family have
been broken down to reach out and include uncles, aunts, cousins and
friends, much like the way in which humans lived for thousands of health-
ier years than we are seeing now. The children have many parents, many
siblings, and much wider psychosocial in- and output than in the un-
naturally truncated nuclear-family situation. Justin cutely took advan-
tage of this set-up at first by flitting from family to family, leaving
one if he was "rudely" spanked for the spoiled behaviours we had never had
the inner strength to break him of. But in the end it will prove the un-
doing of his child's intentions and lead him to a more positive life. I
only wish I could be there for more than occasional visits to see all the
subtle steps that will occur within him.
Besides their fundamentally positive clan set-up, though, the Found-
ations families impressed me as not only the most loving but also soph-
isiticated end even "secular" religious group I had ever encountered.
They even allow things that permissive I always though I would not if
I ever formed a communal group -- toy guns among the kids, meat-eating
among everyone. But as for the last, "not what goeth into a man's
mouth defileth him, but what cometh out," though let me add that the
group eats no more meat than the average population. The toy guns are
not really too prevalent either and reflect a basic non-uptightness
rarely found in any group of their type.
Dorothy cried when she left, with Justin in her arms and her own
kids sprawled in the back of the van. She handed us two packets of
letters dealing with parent-child relationships between unsaved parents
and saved kids who'd come to live at the Foundation's various locations.
I grew to love Dorothy (whose name, another omen, is the same as my
mother's) and the other parents in the short time I knew them. They
need never worry about our support of their faith and works, even if
Dorothy says that I am too "hung up" on concepts to surrender myself,
and even if our friends think we're crazy.

are a part of the foundation,
we did not need these letters
to prove to us the good work
that is being done there by all
as we seen with open eyes and
minds while in saugus what was
going on and we were so impressed
by not only the unity but the
real concern all the members
show for each and every other
person that entered the foundation,
would int it be wonderful if we
could all live in harmoney as they
do. 21 really grieves us to hear
of people who sit back and
criticize the hard work being
done by all the members, how

many of those people would go
