SUBJECT: Vice President 's Session with Greek American Leaders,
June 20, 3 p. .m., Room 474 EOB
The Vice President is scheduled to meet with a delegation of
about 60 prominent Greek-American leaders on Thursday, June 20 at
3 p.m. in Room 474 EOB. The entire program will be as follows:
2:00 p.m.
Welcome -- Linas Kojelis, OPL
U.S. Foreign Policy Briefing -- Robert
McFarlane, NSC
2:30 p.m.
Tax Simplification and the Economic Recovery
-- Manuel Johnson, Assistant Secretary
of the Treasury for Economic Policy
3:00 p.m.
Remarks
The Vice President
We are still awaiting a final list of participants, but among the
most prominent members of the delegation will be: His Eminence
Archbishop Iakovos, Cleo Zambetis, President of AHEPA, George
Christopher, former mayor of San Francisco and Andy Athens,
President of the United Hellenic American Congress.
As regards the Vice President's remarks, I recommend that they be
very brief (3-5) minutes, and that he perhaps mention the current
status of the Beirut crisis (assuming it is not resolved by that
time), and, of course, U.S. policy toward Greece and Cyprus. On
the former issue, the Vice President should be aware of the
sensitivities of some members of the delegation over accusations
that security at the airport in Athens was lax.
