Chapman, Gary-
Gary Chapman is President and CEO of LIN Television Corporation. LIN-TV is a
partner with Disney in the widely acclaimed children's program "Bill Nye the Science Guy."
Chapman is on the Board of Directors for the Broadcast Pioneers Library and the Association for
Maximum Service Television.
Charren, Peggy-
Peggy Charren founded Action for Children's Television (ACT), a national advocacy
organization, in 1968. The 10,000 member group works to encourage program diversity and
eliminate commercial abuses in children's television. ACT promote awareness of issues relating
to children's television though national conferences, publications, public education campaigns,
dialogue with broadcasters, and petitions to federal regulatory agencies. Charren owns and
operates Quality Book Fairs, a company that organizes children's book fairs. She also was the
co-author of The TV Smart Book for Kids, and Changing Channels: Living (Sensibly) with
Television, and is the author of Television, Children, and the Constitutional Bicentennial.
Cosby, Bill-
Bill Cosby is a well-known actor, TV spokesman, writer, and comedian. For eight years
he starred on the TV hit, "The Cosby Show," and in 1994 he began his most recent series, "The
Cosby Mysteries." His books include Fatherhood, Time Flies, Childhood, and Love and
Marriage. He has released 21 comedy and musical albums. Along with partners Tom Werner
and Marcy Carsey, he helped produce "A Different World," which aired on NBC for seven
seasons.
Cohen, Betty-
Betty Cohen is the President of Cartoon Network Worldwide and TNT International. In
addition, she oversees the educational division of Turner Broadcasting -- Turner Educational
Services, Inc. -- which provides selected company resources for use in the classroom. Ms.
Cohen also sits on the Board of Governors of the American Center for Children's Television.
Duggan, Ervin-
Ervin Duggan has been the President and CEO of the Public Broadcasting Service since
February 1994, where he has committed himself to bringing innovation to education and
technology. He was instrumental in the creation of PTV, The Ready to Learn Service of PBS,
which helps parents use television to prepare children for school. Duggan was nominated to the
FCC by former President George Bush and helped shape policies governing the convergence of
broadcasting, cable, satellite, telephone, and computer technologies.
As President of PBS, Duggan has made on-line and other new media educational services
a priority. PBS announced a full 6 hours of preschool programming last year. The average PBS
station carries 6 hours of educational children's programming every day. PBS has new children's
programming in the works, including "Kratts Creatures," a family wildlife adventure series, and
"Arthur", a 30-episode daily series about growing up and exploring the world.
