[Laybourne was named President of Disney/ABC Cable
Networks in late 1995, after spending fifteen years with
Nickelodeon. One of the hallmarks of her tenure at Nickelodeon
was the inclusion of children in focus groups when planning
new shows. Laybourne recently called on advertisers to set
aside 10% of their ad budgets for educational shows. She has
been praised for successfully introducing positive female TV

Gary Chapman - President & CEO, LIN TV. LIN TV is a partner in
"Bill Nye the Science Guy." As an owner of local stations, he has a
unique view of what it takes to make a successful program.
David Britt - President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's
Television Workshop (CTW). CTW produces "Sesame Street."
Peggy Charren, founder of Action for Children's Television and a
leading children's TV advocate. Her view of what a successful
program is reflects the advocates' perspective.

Talking Points:
o Success is in the eye of the beholder. Success can mean a show is
profitable, that it teaches children, that it is a good merchandising
vehicle or that it's renewed for another season.
All parties need to understand each others meaning of success
and work to embrace as many of the various components as
possible.
