Brief Bios On Conference Participants
Anstrom, Decker-
Decker Anstrom is President and CEO of the National Cable Television Association.
Previously, Anstrom served as senior staff member at the Office of Management and Budget and
as Assistant Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.
Baker, Barry-
Barry Baker was the President, CEO; and co-founder of River City Broadcasting, which
recently merged with Sinclair Broadcast Group. Baker will now serve as President and CEO of
Sinclair Communications: In March 1995, Baker was installed as chairman of the Television
Bureau of Advertising's board of directors:
Bewkes, Jeff-
Jeff Bewkes, the Chief Executive Officer and President of HBO, was recently also named
Chairman in November of 1995. In addition, he is a member of the managing committee of
Comedy Central, a trustee of the Walter Kaitz Foundation, and a member of the National Cable
Television Association Board of Directors and the Cable Academy Board of Governors.
HBO participated with a Canadian company in producing a series of short films entitled
the "Composer's Specials," a series of short films featuring a classical composer and his
friendship with a child. The series has won numerous awards, including a 1993 Primetime
Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program for "Beethoven Lives Upstairs."
Britt, David-
David Britt has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's Television
Workshop (CTW) since 1990, after joining the company in 1971 as assistant director of a CTW
project. He is also a trustee of CTW. In 1993 he was elected to serve as the first Chairman of
the Board of Governors for the American Center for Children's Television, an organization
promoting excellence in television programming. In 1996, he was elected to be a member of the
Council on Foreign Relations.
Burton, LeVar-
LeVar Burton, who is best known for his role as Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge on the
TV series "Star Trek: The Next Generation," is also the host and co-executive producer of the
PBS series "Reading Rainbow." The show introduces children to the world of reading and
books. In February, President Clinton nominated Burton to the U.S. National Commission on
Libraries and Information Science, which advises the White House and Congress on domestic
and foreign library and information services, policies, and plans
Burton was a board member of the National Endowment for Children's Educational
Television created by the Children's Television Act, which did not receive funding over the last
two years by Congress.
